Contrary to lifting barriers, folding barriers are submersed horizontally in the ground. A lifting device is required for unfolding (front-end loader like those used for lifting barriers). The top of the flaps can be covered (e.g. with paving). This way, the top of the flaps can be accessed by foot / vehicle when folded down.
